Safety Update: Paradise Park Wardens

We are excited to announce that we've successfully reintroduced the Paradise Park Wardens project now that the CID is operational! We will have one warden stationed at the top playground and another down by the treehouse. Their responsibilities include picking up litter, assisting park visitors, and coordinating with the security team as needed.

Cable theft is a persistent problem in Cape Town, and unfortunately our community is not immune. A few months ago, the Vineyard and Hiddingh areas experienced several incidents of cable theft, which were successfully curbed by the vigilance of the Claremont neighborhood security.

Newlands CID Status July 2024

July 2024 is the first month that Additional Rates are being collected from property owners within the Newlands Community Improvement District.  The City will make monthly payments to the CID which will in turn deliver the 'supplementary services' detailed in the Business Plan.

What is a CID?

A clearly defined geographical area can apply to the City of Cape Town to become a Special Rating Area - commonly called a Community Improvement District, or CID. CIDs can access additional property rates to fund "top up" services in their area.

Newlands is a suburb blessed with knowledgeable, energetic and committed residents. For years this has allowed us to enjoy levels of cleanliness and security that many people don't fully appreciate. Certainly, the City and national government don't have the resources to deliver many of the services that our residents enjoy on a daily basis.
