Joint Operation Discovers Multiple Encampments

Discovery of Encampments

During a joint operation on Friday, 6 September 2024, several organisations including SANParks, Claremont SAPS, Law Enforcement, Newlands CID, Fernwood Watch, and a cleaning team worked together to uncover multiple encampments.

Location of Encampments

Two encampments near the M3 and Newlands Avenue intersection were found to be engaging in illegal activities such as burning cable and copper.

Another encampment was discovered near the M3 between Newlands Base and Klipper Road, but no one was present at the time.

Additionally, the underpass tunnel next to Klipper Road was visited, where multiple tents and occupants were found.

Removal of Encampments

The cleaning team took action to remove the encampments, and fines were given to all occupants of the Klipper underpass. They were advised to leave the area immediately.

Record Keeping

Profiles and images of the individuals encountered during the operation were shared in a closed group with active roleplayers to keep as a record for future reference.

Collaborative Effort

A great collaborative effort between these various teams are essential in preventing crime in the mountains and surrounding areas.
