Early Morning Incident
At 03.00 this morning an AI-enabled community camera alerted to a man running in Cannon Street. Within three minutes the CID Control Room had the first officer on scene.
Break-in at Building Site
Three men had broken into a building site and were loading copper pipes onto their bakkie. Our Community Patrollers detained two of the thieves, the bakkie and the stolen goods. The third man fled and escaped. A case was opened, the bakkie has been impounded and the suspects are currently being held at Claremont police station.
Preventing Crime
This incident shows how important our Community CCTV network is. By using cameras strategically, we can actually stop crimes from happening, not just catch the bad guys afterwards. The camera that spotted the thieves is owned by a resident who kindly lets the CID use it for everyone's safety. We now have over 80 cameras working at night, and if you want to join the network or install your own CCTV, please get in touch.
Thank You to the Security Team
And, of course, thank you to the Security team - the officers and control room staff who have the experience and commitment to manage situations like this when we are all asleep.
